Uldis Sipols
Uldis Sipols was previously the CPO for Sonoco Products Company in Hartsville, SC where he led a transformation of the Supply Management team to become a high performance strategic player by doubling $savings (productivity) results in 2 years with a ROI of 5:1. He also reorganized and upgraded talent globally with solid succession plans, and established a process and roadmap with accountability to achieve sustainable world class savings and payment term performance levels through 2018+. His key roles and contributions prior to Sonoco include:
– VP Product Supply Purchases, Procter and Gamble, where he led the fastest growing spend pools (contract manufacturing, devices, capital equipment, logistics) to a cost reduction of $800MM and revenue increase of $573MM over a 5 year period via innovation initiatives. Prior to that, he co-led the successful integration and synergy cost savings initiative for the P&G/Gillette acquisition’s combined purchases ( generating $1B+ total savings over 3 yrs).
– VP, Global Procurement (CPO) and Administration, The Gillette Company. Instituted a strategic sourcing process which achieved over $550MM in savings over 3 years, a major factor in Gillette’s turnaround prior to the acquisition by P&G. He also designed and implemented a global category management organization which transformed Procurement for sustained results going forward.
– VP, Corporate Procurement (CPO), Danaher Corporation. Established a lean, strategic procurement initiative and Team for key purchases for 50+ de-centralized worldwide businesses—doubling previous cost savings in year one and tripling that number in year two. Utilized Policy Deployment methodology and supplemented the Danaher Business System (DBS) with value chain disciplines.
– VP, Global Procurement (CPO), AMP/Tyco Electronics. Designed and implemented a hybrid global purchasing structure and professional supply chain process for the decentralized Company. Achieved $141MM cost savings with improved process rigor and stretch objectives.
– Purchasing and Supplier Quality Director, Automotive Components Division, Ford Motor Company. He combined and directed procurement and supplier quality operations for Ford’s Electronics, Climate Control, and Plastics/Trim operations for 35 plants on 4 continents. Achieved $260MM cost reduction with a significantly de-layered organization that he initiated.
– Mr. Sipols earned a BA from the University of Michigan and MBA from the University of Detroit and serves on Michigan’s Ross School of Business Advisory Council (MSCM program). He has also lectured and sponsored grad student supply projects at MIT, Carnegie Mellon Tepper/Heinz, and INSEAD. He is married with 3 adult daughters and resides in the Boston, MA area. Interests include golf, music, family activities, and scouting.
Uldis Sipols is the currently the leader of US Associates, LLC where he leverages his 40 years of procurement/supply operating experience for Fortune 500 companies in multiple industries including automotive, electronics, diversified manufacturing, consumer packaged goods and packaging. He works with CPO’s in business turnarounds and organizational transformation (e.g. M&A, PE, re-structuring) where operational improvement and change management are paramount– particularly in raising the bar for total enterprise value driven via procurement.
